چکیده

This poster presents a new 5 GHz combined MERLIN/VLA map of B0218+357 which shows for the first time believable substructure in the Einstein ring. This will now be exploited for further constraints on the model which presently dominates the error on the estimate of H 0 derived from the time delay (10.5±0.4 days) measured for this system.

MERLIN / VLA imaging of the gravitational lens system B 0218 + 357 A . D . Biggs , ⋆

Gravitational lenses offer the possibility of accurately determining the Hubble parameter (H0) over cosmological distances, and B0218+357 is one of the most promising systems for an application of this technique. In particular this system has an accurately measured time delay (10.5 ± 0.4 d; Biggs et al. 1999) and preliminary mass modelling has given a value for H0 of 69 +13 −19 kms −1 Mpc. The ...

Se p 20 02 The Redshift of the Lensed Object in the Einstein Ring B 0218 + 357

We present a secure redshift of z = 0.944±0.002 for the lensed object in the Einstein ring gravitational lens B0218+357 based on five broad emission lines, in good agreement with our preliminary value announced several years ago based solely on the detection of a single emission line. Subject headings: gravitational lensing — galaxies: redshifts – galaxies: individual (B0218 + 357)

Time delay for the gravitational lens system B 0218 + 357

Measurement of the time delay between multiple images of a gravitational lens system is potentially an accurate method of determining the Hubble constant over cosmological distances. One of the most promising candidates for an application of this technique is the system B0218+357 which was found in the Jodrell Bank/VLA Astrometric Survey (JVAS). This system consists of two images of a compact r...

EVN and MERLIN confirmation of the LS 5039 jets

The microquasar nature of LS 5039 was revealed by May 1999 VLBA+VLA observations showing a twosided jet at milliarcsecond scales. Here we present follow-up interferometric observations carried out with the EVN and MERLIN at 5 GHz in March 2000. The obtained maps with both the EVN and MERLIN show a two-sided jet with a similar position angle to the previous VLBA+VLA map. The total length of the ...

The complex 10-component gravitational lens B1933+503 has been monitored with the VLA during the period February to June 1998. Here we present the results of this A-configuration 8.4 GHz monitoring campaign. The 37 epochs of observations have an average spacing of 3 days. The data have yielded light curves for the four flat-spectrum radio components (components 1, 3, 4 and 6). We find no signif...
